O.U.R.S./Y.O.U.R.S.

OURS (Opportunity Understanding Respect Success) & YOURS (Youth Outreach Undergraduates Reshaping Success) is a program serving youth who reside in mobile home communities throughout rural Dryden, NY. The YOURS student group through the Cornell University David M. Einhorn Center for Community Engagement provides volunteer mentors to the youth of OURS, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County. Since March 2005, the program has grown to support youth who can range in age from 7 to 17, with volunteer members from Cornell University. During the school year, OURS & YOURS provides three programs a week, each focus on building positive adult-youth relationships as well as fostering an environment for the youth to learn and develop.

OURS & YOURS programs, under the directions of the CCETC RYS Dryden Senior Program Manager strive to create an environment for the youth to grow through the 4-H Life Skills and Circle of Courage Models. These models identify four main needs for developing youth: Independence (Head), sense of Belonging (Heart), Generosity (Hands), and Mastery (Health).The youth are encouraged to gain independence and responsibility through acting as leaders to their peers and in their community. YOURS fosters a community environment and gives the youth a sense of belonging, as well as encouraging the youth to participate and create their own ways to give within their greater community.

O.U.R.S. is a community-based youth program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County.

Y.O.U.R.S. is a Cornell University of the David M. Einhorn Center for Community Engagement.
